Extract from the Marylebone Vestry Minutes of March 22, 1877
To the Honourable the Vestry of the Parish of Saint Marylebone
Gentlemen
We the undersigned owners and occupiers of houses in Hamilton Terrace and Upper Hamilton Terrace being desirous of having trees planted on each side of these thoroughfares, beg respectfully to request the Vestry to make arrangements for carrying out the works . We are of the opinion that the trees would be an ornament and improvement to the neighbourhood as well as an advantage to the public and to the inhabitants of the locality. We are willing to bear any portion of the expense which you, the Honourable Board, would think would be fair in the matter.
Signed : Rev Duckworth, 77 Hamilton Terrace and by 45 others.
