Portraits of Samuel Godley's life: Original illustrations by Kate Morton

These original illustrations by Kate Morton illustrate key scenes in Samuel Godley’s life.

These drawings were used in the Creative Writing and Caricature Drawing workshops. The scenes depict:

  • Taking the King’s shilling
  • Guarding Mayfair and Belgravia
  • The night before the Battle of Waterloo
  • A working Chelsea Pensioner at the Baker Street Bazaar
  • The Prince Regent’s Fete

Teachers wishing to use these resources to replicate the Creative Writing workshop with David Ward, might engage students in “hot seating” exercises, asking them to imagine how people in each drawing might have felt, or might invite participants to write descriptive autobiographical entries that embellish Samuel Godley’s story.
