Agnes Nicholls was born in Cheltenham, 1877, and educated at Bedford High School, and the Royal College of Music.
In 1904, she married Hamilton Harty [1879-1941] who was conductor of the Hallé Orchestra. He was knighted 1925.
Agnes Nicholls is regarded as having been one of the finest English concert, oratorio and operatic sopranos of the 20th century.
She lived in the ground floor flat of 37 St. John’s Wood Road after WWII and, possibly, until her death in 1959.
