Post war housing problems

Abbey Lodge

In September 1946 desperate bombed out people waiting to be re housed broke into Abbey Lodge, Park Road near Regents Park.   The police blockaded the flats, but sympathisers passed supplies through the windows and crowds quickly gathered outside. A fracas developed with the crowd against the police action and the squatters voluntarily left the flats a few days later.
