  • I have fond memories of Mr Goetze, his visits to the school were a highlight; he would open the classroom door and would waggle his stick before showing himself, this would cause howls of delight from the class.  He would give out pushup cards of scenes of farms, airfields, high streets etc, they were published by Players cigarettes, can you imagine that these days .

  • I was interested to see photographs of Barrow Hill St John.s Wood I went to school there from around 1935 to 1939, I returned there some years ago as I was and am writing family history, when I was there the Headmaster was Mr Powell his sister was a teacher, and the benefactor to the school was Sigismund Goetze the sculptor; he paid for many things in the school and we would go to his house a Regents Park Villa (Decimus Burton Arch) and have a wonderful time there, I wrote to the Agents of the Villa as I would have liked to have seen the Murals but it is on Lease to the Sultan of Brunei, and as his faith does not like figurative paintings etc they have been covered up (boarded I think) but they did send me a brochure of the Villa can anyone remember that time at Barrow Hill ? and are there any photos of that period?
